Main identification features
  • elongate, ovoid, compressed
  • tail base: 2 cutting keels
  • forehead +/- large horn
NASO

UNICORNFISHES

Body elongate, oval; adults often with horn on front of head; 1-2 pairs of cutting keels on plates on narrow tail base; pelvics I, 3; 2 anal spines; IV-VII dorsal fin spines; teeth small, conical, tips slightly depressed & either smooth or with multiple small points.

An Indo-Pacific genus with 16 species; 5 Indo-Pacific species have been reported in our region, apparently all as vagrants.
